name...
Old Tegucigalpa, built
on a steep hill, retains many quaint colonial aspects, with narrow
streets and sidewalks, overhanging balconies, and stair-stepped
streets. Across the Choluteca River lies Comayagüela, the more modern
but less affluent section; the city's population has expanded greatly
there in the last few decades.
Honduras travelers will want to visit Tegucigalpa, Honduras for its
rich history and its distinct cultural flavor. Eric Timar has been
kind enough to offer us his best insights into Tegucigalpa's history,
some attractions and activities, as well as accommodations, food, and
nightlife. Thanks Eric.
Honduran capital of TEGUCIGALPA is not, at least on first impression,
the most welcoming city. The winding, narrow streets are thick with
motorized traffic, and the sidewalks full to the gills with shoppers
and loafers.

Tegucigalpa is the capital of and largest city in Honduras.
Tegucigalpa is a great example Central America of urban sprawl gone
amok, spread out across very hilly terrain.
Tegucigalpa – or Tegus, as most people call it – is a bustling city in
a bowl-shaped valley with a colonial center and sprawling residential
neighborhoods. With a historical downtown area, a few good museums,
and a variety of restaurants, it’s worth a day or two.
